How to Score Well in Higher Studies?

Train Your Brain

What to learn and what not is up to you; but you have to keep in mind that all you are learn will be preserved for a long. Then only your mind will retain the learned things for long. Test yourself on what you’ve studied. Get a scale for yourself to examine your achievements and flaws and return to restudy what you didn’t know.

Get Study Material from Professors

As soon as you enter the class, prompt interaction with your professors to learn more about their specializations. Promote it and start asking for effective study material or book references from your professors. These notes are highly constructive as whatever they have learned over years is scribbled in these notes. From the professor’s thinking to scope and pattern, everything is compiled in an approachable manner. These notes are probably at the heart of the course to get you to the essence of the topic. That’s icing on the cake for you.

Having said that, you should invest time in framing your notes as well to support your long term goals.

Avoid Cramming

Rote learning, scratch that right away; bone up to let your efforts go uncompromised. Since our short term memory is short-lived and is dovetailed in our brain with a smaller capacity, it remembers only a few things. While our long term memory seems limitless and can work forever like your phone’s memory, even if there’s an overload, it stacks information for a long for everyone. That said, it doesn’t mean you study for 8 to 10 hours a day. This will not work if you are preparing for exams as you will start cramming at some point. To keep remembering stuff, two to three hours of studying would be sufficient, and this would be the best trick to score well for you.

Write Answers Decently

In the end, what matters is your response to questions. As you go along, you will realize that the way your answer is written matters a lot as it conveys the main of a question. Start practising answer writing to ensure that you get good marks based on your writing skills. The common mistake that most of the students do is they write a lengthy answer for a one-mark question and word-to-word for a 15 mark question. Try understanding the marking scheme to know how to convey the answer.

Keep the Readability High

Lodge the information in such a way that it invites the examiner to mark you appropriately.

Pencil in the trick- Try writing answers in paragraphs and not bullets. Single paragraphs are too boring to read; break them down into smaller paragraphs to add attention, relevance and curiosity. It impresses the checker when you are clear with your answer. Don’t use case capitalization as it may swerve the checker’s attention. Build separate paragraphs to emphasize different points. Bullets fade away the quality of the answers, so avoid using them. Divulge the crux and frame your idea around it.

Add Diagrams and Flowcharts

It may sound stressful, but adding diagrams and flowcharts would make your answer comprehensive and would prompt the evaluation to be more intense. Interesting visuals would give your answer the desirable drift. Keep scribbling your ideas, or else they may get wiped out.

Stick to Your Syllabus

The syllabus can be immense based on what your course is. Cover everything – scratch it- learn only as per the syllabus and exam format. Suppose you have the material- try marking all that is relevant to revise it later. Learn and recite it at least 3 times.

Know the Test Format

Students who know the test format performs better during exams than those who don’t. It helps them follow regular practice regimes, and they participate in innumerable practice tests. Get some practice papers or previous years’ papers to ratchet up the writing scheme with timing.

From Known to Unknown

While preparing or learning, start from what you have already learned. This will reap your mind to perform better when you switch to an unknown part. It helps you relate the context to make the swift easy for you. Don’t understand the context? Make it decipherable by breaking it down into small paragraphs and correlating it.

Keep The Stress At Bay

Don’t give way to stress; it will hinder your performance significantly. Be sure and confident about who you are and use your strengths over anything else. Stick to the ideology – DO IT ONCE, DO IT RIGHT AND DO IT QUICKLY”. All the best.
