For a long time, children with disabilities were educated in separate classes or in separate schools. People got used to the idea that special education meant separate education. But now, we know that when children are educated together, positive academic and social outcomes occur for all the children involved. We also know that simply placing children with and without disabilities together does not produce positive outcomes. Inclusive education occurs when there is ongoing advocacy, planning, support, and commitment. Inclusive education is where all children are engaged through the process of participation, learning, and belongingness.

Inclusive education is the implementation of the policy and process that allows all children to participate in all programmes. Inclusive education is a key strategy to ensure education for all. Inclusive education refers to when all students irrespective of their caste, age, creed, gender, locality, disabilities etc. study in the same school, under the same environment, with equal opportunities without any segregation and discrimination. Policy means that disabled children should be accepted without any restrictions in all the educational programmes meant for other children. It denotes equality and accepts every child with his own unique capabilities. It’s about building friendships, membership and having opportunities just like everyone else.

This principle must be accepted by all the international, national and local programmes. The process of inclusion denotes the ways in which the system makes itself welcoming to all. Inclusive education is based on the simple idea that every child and family is valued equally and deserves the same opportunities and experiences. Inclusive education involves creating a child-centered pedagogy capable of successfully educating all children. Because the philosophy of inclusive education is aimed at helping all children learn, that is- everyone in the class benefits. Thus inclusive education means including all and embracing all.
