Both these courses are a Masters’s course and can be pursued only after you have completed your bachelor’s degree. These degrees have their own value additions in an individual’s career. There is a slight difference between the two.

M.A. in Education – Master of Arts in Education

We can do MA in Education without doing BEd. We can have a Bachelors’s degree in any subject.

People who choose to pursue a master of arts in education are not practicing teachers who are interested in learning about education in general.

People doing this course carry out research on topics as varied as eighteenth-century educational philosophy, anti-racist pedagogy, youth subcultures, or the impact of social media on contemporary education.

M.A. in Education one can work on curriculum development, policy, teacher support, programme coordinators in NGOs, etc. We could even work in international schools.

M.Ed – Master of Education

If we want to become a teacher in a school or we want to become a teacher trainer, we need to do an MEd degree. To do this, we should already have a Bachelor’s in any subject and a BEd. Once we do our MEd, we may also have to do a Masters in the subject in which you did our Bachelors’s degree. (For example BA+MA, BEd+MEd)

  • Practicing Teachers for career growth/ move up the pay scale
  • Classroom teachers who want to have a specialization added to their career
  • To become Vice-Principal or get into the school administration department

The analysis is very clear regarding the prospects of both the courses. As a student one has to decide what he/she is aspiring for? If the aim is to do a professional course in order to start a career and move up the ladder in terms of pay then M. Ed. is what one should go for.

On the other hand, if a person has an inclination towards deep research and further studies in the area of “education “as a subject then MA in Education is the course. Hence, we conclude by stating that both courses are equivalent to being master courses but MA in education is an academic course and M.Ed. is a professional course.
